Two types of Medicine as per Ayurveda

There are two types of medicine, namely, “Aushadham” and “Bheshajam”. Aushadham is that which is made up by mixing various medicinal ingredients and tonics. Whereas, Bheshajam is medicine or cure through performance of auspicious and divine activities having spiritual merit such as yajna (Congregational chanting of Hare Krsna maha mantra, i.e., Sankirtana yajna as recommended for Kali yuga), following cows such as Ekadashi vrata, Tapa such as regulated chanting of fixed number of rounds the maha mantra, Dana or charity. All these activities are called as Bheshajam, or medicine that increase the lifespan of an individual.
